Social innovation

The main topic for week one was understanding social innovation and how it impacts the world around us. Social innovation is defined as the new social practices that work towards meeting social needs better than the current ones. Social innovation requires collaboration, creativity, implementation, and value creation. The community developers are actively engaged in social innovation. An example of social innovation changing the world today is the clean water projects in developing nations. Another example is digital education programs across the globe.

Based on this week's activities, we had to talk about world issues we would like to see disappear. The war between Russia and Ukraine is a world issue I want to see disappear. As I looked at others' posts, one gal mentioned that poverty was the leading cause of all other social problems, such as gun control or abortion. Poverty is not the root cause of worldly issues. I would like to see poverty disappear. According to the Human Rights Careers, "Groups like women, religious minorities, and racial minorities are the most vulnerable. Inequalities income distribution and access to productive resources, basic social services, opportunities, and more as a cause for poverty."

Social innovation is more prevalent today because it introduces novelty to existing product lines or processes, increasing market share, revenues, and customer satisfaction. It is also essential as it can define and reinforce company culture. Each employee needs to be included and feel important as a team member. Social innovation can bond workers and bring compassion into the workplace.
